We've always loved the recording studio environment. Recording studios are fascinating places. They have a surreal magic to them. They can feel like places out of time, somehow; shrines to the creative work that happens within them. The shrine analogy resonates rather strongly for us because of the way we approach making music.
We were originally interested in exploring improvisation with this project, and the way one tends to access flow states while improvising music. The feeling of music emerging from somewhere beyond the conscious part of your mind, feeling nebulous and ethereal in the moment, yet somehow still there to listen back to when you're done…it's just a fascinating, mystical experience. Most of what you hear in our songs was improvised this way, parts tackled again and again until a fire ignites in you, and you almost seem to lose control of your fingers.
We hope listening to the resulting songs can be as meaningful for you as the process of making it is for us.
The Rogue Planets are James Wheeler on guitars and Bree Wheeler on keyboards. The band maintains a hermitic existence, producing their electronic rock music from a metaphorical cave in Kansas City.
